The Winter Holiday season is upon us, bringing families together which can be stressful and challenging.
While the winter holiday season can be a special time with loved ones, it can also be emotionally challenging.
Many people feel pressure to create the “perfect” holiday setting, meal and/or gifts and often report feeling drained and exhausted after shopping and preparing for guests.
Here are some tips to help keep you healthy and grounded as you prepare to spend time with others:
- Create your own lightness in the day to balance the dark hours that accompany this time of year. Lightness can be doing things you love to do.
- Nurture yourself by surrounding yourself with people that are emotionally healthy and make you feel good to be with.
- Balance exercise and eating healthy with enjoying special holiday foods.
- Maintain some routine in your days to help with feelings of depression.
- Get outside.
- Avoid comparing yourself to others.
- Seek out friends and community to avoid feeling alone and isolated.
- Give gifts that make you feel excited to give and that you can afford.
